Newcastle Maitland Diocese

28 November 2019 | General Interest

On the 23rd November the Newcastle/Maitland Diocese held the first day of its three day Synod in preparation for the Plenary Council. The following two days will take place on the feasts of Christ the King 2020 and 2021.

The theme of the Synod is Building the Kingdom of God Together in the Diocese of Maitland/Newcastle.

After listening to the keynote speakers, Fr Richard Lennan and Mrs Lana Turvey-Collins, the group of 400 was invited to break into six groups and attend workshops that focussed on listening and discerning together how God is calling us to be a Christ-centred Church. The themes of the Plenary Council were used for this process and they were led by the following: Sr. Lauretta Baker, Dr. Ursula Stephens, Mrs Rose McAlister, Bishiop Greg Homeming and Mrs Mary Ringsted.

The Dominican Sisters who were able to attend, found the day very inspirational and full of hope and are looking forward to the follow up days.
